What this tool checks

The scanner fetches your page HTML along with your robots.txt, sitemap.xml, and llms.txt. It doesn't run PageSpeed Insights, that's what our page speed checker is for. This is purely about whether search engines and AI tools can find, read, and understand your page.

Metadata & content

The basics that affect every search result

These four checks cover what appears in search results and social previews. They're the most visible layer, the things users and platforms see before they even visit your page.

01Page title

Does the page have a title tag? Is it a reasonable length? The title is what appears as the blue link in search results and the first thing Google reads to understand what the page is about. Missing or truncated titles mean Google writes one for you, and it's rarely better.

02Meta description

Is there a meta description? Is it within Google's display limit? The description doesn't directly affect rankings, but it affects click-through rate, which does. A missing description means Google pulls whatever snippet it finds, which may not be the message you'd choose.

03Open Graph tags

Are og:title, og:description, and og:image present? Open Graph controls how your page appears when shared on LinkedIn, Facebook, Slack, and most messaging platforms. Missing OG tags mean the platform guesses, and the preview often looks broken or pulls the wrong image.

04Image alt text

Do your images have alt attributes? Alt text serves two purposes: accessibility for screen readers, and context for search engines that can't see images. Missing alt text is one of the most common accessibility failures on the web.

Structured data

What search engines can machine-read

Structured data is how you tell Google what your content is, not just what it says. This check looks for JSON-LD markup that helps earn rich results in search.

01Schema markup

Does the page contain valid JSON-LD structured data? Schema markup helps Google understand the content type, is this a FAQ page, an organisation, a product, a review? The right schema can earn rich results (stars, FAQ dropdowns, breadcrumbs) in search. The wrong schema, or none at all, means Google has to guess.

Crawlability & AI access

Whether bots can actually reach and read your content

Good content means nothing if crawlers can't reach it. These five checks cover whether search engines and AI tools can access, discover, and correctly attribute your pages.

01Canonical URL

Does the page declare a canonical URL? Canonicals tell search engines which version of a page is the original. Without one, duplicate content across URL variants (www vs non-www, HTTP vs HTTPS, trailing slashes) can split your ranking signals.

02Sitemap

Can we find a sitemap.xml? A sitemap helps search engines discover pages they might miss through crawling alone. It's especially important for larger sites or pages that aren't well-linked from the main navigation.

03Robots.txt

Is there a robots.txt file, and does it allow crawling? Robots.txt tells search engines which parts of your site they're allowed to access. A misconfigured robots.txt can accidentally block important pages from being indexed.

04llms.txt

Does the site have an llms.txt file? This is the emerging standard for telling AI crawlers, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, who you are, what you do, and what content to reference. Most sites don't have one yet. Having one gives you a head start with answer engine optimisation.

05AI bot access

Does robots.txt block AI crawlers like GPTBot, ClaudeBot, or PerplexityBot? Some sites block AI crawlers intentionally. Others block them accidentally through overly broad robots.txt rules. This check tells you whether AI tools can access your content at all.

Security & performance

Foundation checks

These checks cover the infrastructure layer, HTTPS, mobile rendering, and server response time. They're less visible than metadata but affect how search engines treat your site at a fundamental level.

01Viewport meta tag

Does the page have a viewport meta tag for mobile rendering? Without it, mobile devices render the page at desktop width and scale it down, which means a poor mobile experience and a failed mobile-usability signal for Google.

02HTTPS redirects

Does the site redirect HTTP to HTTPS? HTTPS is a confirmed Google ranking signal, and browsers show security warnings on HTTP pages. If the redirect isn't in place, some visitors and some crawlers may land on the insecure version.

03TTFB (Time to First Byte)

How quickly does the server respond? TTFB measures the time between requesting the page and receiving the first byte of the response. A slow TTFB suggests server-side issues, slow hosting, unoptimised database queries, or missing caching.

How to read your score

What pass, warn, and fail mean

Every check gets a verdict: pass, warn, or fail. The overall score out of 100 is weighted, metadata and crawlability issues count more than nice-to-haves.

A pass means the check meets the standard Google and AI crawlers expect. A warn means it's present but could be improved, a title that's too long, or an OG image that's missing while the title and description are set. A fail means the check is missing or broken in a way that's likely affecting how search engines and AI tools handle your page.

The score isn't a grade, it's a diagnostic. A site scoring 60 isn't failing. It means there are specific things that, if fixed, would improve how search engines and AI crawlers understand and present your content. The tool tells you what those things are and which ones to fix first.

What this tool doesn't do

Scope and honesty

This is a single-page check, not a full site audit. It doesn't crawl your entire site, check every page for broken links, or audit your backlink profile. It doesn't run PageSpeed Insights or measure Core Web Vitals, use our page speed checker for that.

It also doesn't replace a proper technical SEO audit. If the scanner flags multiple issues, a deeper investigation, looking at how your site is structured, how content is modelled, and how pages relate to each other, is usually the next step.

What the scanner does well is give you a quick, honest read on the technical basics for any single page. The kind of check that takes an agency an hour to run manually, available in seconds.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. No signup, no email required. Paste a URL and get your results immediately.

We don’t add a CRM record just because you ran a check. We keep a short-lived cache of results, and we record the URL and score in analytics so we can see how the tool is used. A Page Speed check also sends the URL to Google PageSpeed Insights. If you send an enquiry, the URL and a summary of the result go with that form.

Different tools check different things. This scanner focuses on the technical basics that Google and AI crawlers look for on a single page. Tools like Ahrefs or SEMrush run full site audits covering backlinks, keyword rankings, and crawl depth, a much broader scope. The scores aren't comparable because they're measuring different things.

You can scan any publicly accessible URL. Pages behind logins, paywalls, or that block our scanner via robots.txt won't return full results.

Start with the fails. Missing canonicals, broken HTTPS redirects, and absent structured data have the most direct impact on how search engines handle your page. Warnings are improvements, worth doing, but not urgent.

llms.txt is an emerging standard that tells AI crawlers (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude) about your business in a structured, machine-readable format. Most sites don't have one yet.
